1994 KR3TS' LOGO WAS INAUGURATED INTO THE ORIGINAL GRAFFITI HALL
OF FAME
In 1980, Ray Rodriguez, who created the Original Graffiti Hall
Of Fame in Spanish Harlem, did so as a source of inspiration for
his Harlem community, along with his appreciation for the street
art and his desire to help youths find a constructive medium through
which to showcase their talent. Ray and Violet Galagarza, Director
of KR3T’S, both in their own separate element of Hip Hop,
have created foundations in which those who yearn for self expression
are able to do so. For that reason, in 2004, KR3T’S logo was
inaugurated into the wall of fame during the wall’s 25th year
celebration. Today the logo still remains a sight for all to see.
Joey AKA TDS who is one of the innovators of the Hall of Fame and
currently runs the sacred ground says, “It’s a beautiful
thing that Violet is doing within the community, there’s not
many people like her. She definitely earned her spot on the wall
and we look forward to her coming every year with her dancers.”
For 26 years now, Junior High School 13’s, (Jackie Robinson
education complex) lengthy, inner and outer playground walls on
E.106th Street and Park Avenue have acted as the brick drawing boards
for the community landmark. Subsequent to its conception, the wall
was duplicated in other parts of NYC & eventually around the
globe. Now, the Harlem GHOF is a worldwide milestone and every year
artists come from all over the world, hoping to make their mark
on one of the walls.
The site has been vivid eye candy for millions, including tourist,
community residents, and to those who drive by or ride by via the
Metro North Railway system (part of NYC’s mass transit system),
which hovers over the historic playground. Only Hip Hop’s
elite, who’ve had a deep influence in one or more of the four
key elements of hip hop— graffiti, break dancing, rapping,
or DJ’ing are fortunate enough to have their signature work
posted on the wall…KR3T’S is honored to be a historic
part of Hip Hop.
In addition, the Graffiti Hall Of Fame has been recognized in major
publications including, El Diario, The New York Times, The New York
Post, Village Voice, and Source magazine. The artwork showcased
on the walls has also been featured in such films and TV shows as
Style Wars, “Yo MTV Raps”, and “New York Undercover”,
Hip Hop Immortals, and various movies and music videos. Notorious
